Experimental films and arts funding?

Had this in an email regarding a couple of my films. Interesting and of course I said yes. Funding and its relation to my work is always on my mind.

Hi there Mark

I am writing to you because i found some of your short films when i searched for 'examples of experimental film' in google.

I was really captivated watching your 'slow motion' film and the one with 'burgh? castle'

I am doing a dissertation about arts funding for independent filmmakers and i have to do a very long presentation in front of alot of people so i am trying to get some examples of experimental and independent film to not only fill it out a little but to support me evidentially as well.

I was wondering if i would be able to perhaps use your work with your permission and if it is actually possible for me to download the copies from you. I would mention you in the presentation and put your details in the bibliography of my essay. I understand of course completely if you dont want to but i would be very grateful.

Regards
Julie

Burgh Castle

Burgh Castle a series of processes 2006

Inspired by the marvelous ruins of Burgh Castle near where I live. I came up with this short film. It's a series of pictures I've took with a still camera and then edited and processed them together. Added in some footage I had with another session there to make this film. The piece like the ruins themselves have undergone a succession of processes. One of human intevention and of time itself. For me it has an earlier artistic connection as for the Landscape 200 exhibition of 2005 at the Norwich castle get a picture of mine accepted. One of the first major exhibitions I have exhibited at.

Haunting 2005

New stuff ...old stuff......

I have been doing loads of video editing of material. It's amzing what i have collected in the past seven years worth of tapes. All the photgraphs I have taken on this blog have been a remminder of what i can use. Like the terracotta head I dug up from college 20 years ago. Everything has it's place and nothing is forgotten unless it's thrown away.
In a simular fashion I have been warmly encouraged by the relative number of hits on my film pieces in the last couple of weeks that i have been uploading them. This has given me an impertus for producing ideas and trying them out. For they do nothing if all they do is reside lying in boxs on the shelf.

Everything has a purpose.

That is not to say that you can just rely on the internet and exist in cyberspace. Because that is wrong. A blog has to an input of real life and not a collection of data pasted from somewhere else on the internet. So this has been a notepad come scratch pad for me to recall and jot down ideas as I progress.

A depository for things that otherwise would be ignored is purpose for this blog. I have to have a place to put ideas in a form that I can recall.

The collection of architectural structures to be captured on camera for the next installation has grown.

As has my ongoing research for my imaginary film project.

For something new the artists group I am involved in with has launched a blog with the website we have developed over christmas to be on line in the next couple of months. These are excuses for real world activites to be iniated.

Slow motion

Short film made from found footage

Relics

A film of two halves:

The recent past in monochrome and the future in colour.

This piece is an assemblege of past fragments of myself. I have been colecting footage of abandoned cars for the last five years. Mixed in with this some footage of the 2002 London Mayday protest. The guitar soundtrack I was pleased with as well this being written five years old and it was nice to have an outcome for its creation.
