Welcome to my museum of time

In the seven years since graduating I've amassed a large collection of Digital Video tapes. Not only in the physical number of tapes but of the amount of time captured within in zeros and ones. These are my "sketch books" with plenty of found footage to delve into to make new work from. Nothing is wasted until it's thrown away. I do like to recycle in a digital age where it is often the case of deleting for the sake of perfection. Museums are places to explore and not just a depository of exhibits.

The nine lives of a cat

Me and Xenia showed the film we had been working with participants from Julian House in Norwich on wednsday. What was certain was that participants were very keen to continue what they had found within themselves. Patrick with his acting ability wants to experiment with film with using music. (He plays in a band and what they produce is of good enough quality) Joe wants to pursue further his creative writing with another piece based on a short story. Liz wants to do more acting. Eric also wants to pursue acting because of his involvement in this. Martin is going to be writing some music for this and his own films. He had already been involved in the photography stills. Liz and Angie want to crate more for another film.
So all in all some great results. The film itself is an achievement but is also a stepping stone in realising within themselves what is possible.
So insearch for more funding...

Alan is off to Hull

'I'm Leading A Quiet Life on Alan Road' has been selected for
screening at GLIMMER: the 6th Hull International Short Film Festival
between 15th-20th April

The film will be screened as part of the British Competition and be
eligible for the GLIMMER British Film Award which comes with a prize of
£500 sponsored by Hull Trains,

The exact dates of the screening will be confirmed in the next couple of
weeks.

Nearly there...

The next poetry film is close to the boil. Well I said that on Sunday but then I found something else to put in the pot. Just a few more amendments and edits here and there and it's cooked. Put announcement here so I know I've got to finish it asap this week.

The power of the voice

Week 2 into the Julin Housing film project "The Nine Lives of the Cat". Recording drama and vocal activites reduced shaking in atleast one participant who didn't take their medication. It was noticibly reduced by the fourth and final successful vocal recording.

The Factory

Sunday was spent making a poetry film with Rupert Mallin at the Factory Studios in Norwich. An assortment of found detritus which makes up his poem was used for the filming. No actual toys were hurt in the process. Finding a totally quiet area to record the poem was difficult so we used the outside ambient noise of a Norwich sunday morning as part of the process. Which meant getting the the vocal performance as one take in circumstances. No editing afterwards. Which I like as it captures everything that is human and therefore makes it real. Yes the voice is an instrument in itself. I like using the video camera as a multi media recorder. Audiowise a suitable microphone improves the sound quality from the internal noise of the cameras itself. Lending it to be used as an audio recorder which doesn't taint the audio recording process. Much experimentation was also placed on the visual aspect as well. This poetry film (which is the second one so far) is an ongoing collaborative process. I've just got to get some more footage of drains and such like and then edit it together.

Brain Storming

This workshop was a brain storming session for the participants from the Julian Housing project in Norwich. The individuals helped by the Julian Housing project are people with enduring mental health issues who are supported into appropriate accommodation. In the next six weeks Xenia Horne, Liz and myself are enabling them to make a film and in this first session yesterday they had to decide what their film will be about.

All of last week working with Prue Dobinson and Rachel Thomas at The White House nusery Winterton. I documented the "Me and My Friends" and " A Childs Fantasy Garden" workshops making them into a film which was shown on the 25th aniversery to celebrate the nursery has been running.

The Magnificent Revolutionary Cycling Cinema

Found out today that I have some of my films playing at The Big Chill festival 3rd to 5th of August. They will be in the The Magnificent Revolutionary Cycling Cinema. As the name suggests a cycle powered 200 capacity cinema on the Big Chill Art Trail.
